“Once children are helped to perceive themselves as authors and inventors, once they are helped to discover the pleasures of inquiry, their motivation and interest explode.”
Loris Malaguzzi, Reggio Emilia
Welcome to On Reflection Publishing, the publishing venture of Reflections Nursery, Worthing, West Sussex, UK.
Reflections Nursery draws its inspiration from the internationally renowned pre-schools of Reggio Emilia in Northern Italy. The nursery employs full-time artists, or ‘Atelieristas’ to support children’s creative expression and educators support children’s learning through long-term project work, often inspired by the children’s ideas or theories.
These projects are documented in detail by Reflections staff as a learning tool for children and adults. Educators at the nursery are able to reflect on the progress of individual children and the group; and the documentation is shared with children to solicit their reflections.
On Reflection Publishing was set up to share some of the documented projects with anyone in the wider community seeking to improve practice in early childhood education and their understanding of how children learn.
